eLearning Africa is an annual conference focusing on ICT for development, education and training in Africa. It is the most relevant and most comprehensive international capacity-building event for all stakeholders engaged in ICT-enhanced education and training on the Continent. The first conference took place in 2006 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. eLearning Africa is organised in partnership with African governments, and a different country serves as the venue each year. Participant figures for the annual event have grown significantly from 832 at the debut event in 2006 to 1778 delegates at the fifth conference in Lusaka, Zambia in May 2010. Attendees come from more than 80 countries in Africa and around the globe: a geographic and cultural richness that is unrivalled. The strong African involvement – 80 percent of the delegates come from the Continent – makes it a truly pan-African event.

The National Stakeholders Workshop on Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (eWaste) was organised by ICWE Africa. The meeting was attended by 100 delegates from Kenyan Ministries, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Microsoft and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). The meeting produced ten potential solutions to minimising the impact of unsafe disposal of electronic products on the country’s public health and environment. The CISSA conference brings together representatives from the law enforcement sector, government, NGOs, and the education and corporate sectors to discuss key issues relating to the safety of children and young people online. This includes identifying computer crimes against the youngest Internet users, grooming, cyber bullying, mobile phones and child safety, online gaming and Internet addiction.
The aim of the conference is to raise awareness about the new challenges and opportunities in fighting Internet threats and to help share best practice between different sectors. Sessions will be led by recognized experts in the field of child protection.

With more than 440 participants from around the world, the Russian event in the series of Online Educa international conferences was met with a positive response. The Online Educa Moscow conference took place from September 30 to October 3 at the President Hotel in the Russian capital. The conference attracted 352 delegates from Russia and the CIS countries and 92 participants from the EU, the USA, China and other countries. Conference attendees included experts from the business sector and the academic community, as well as education decision-makers and innovators. The event looked into the latest developments in technology-enhanced learning and gave a particular focus on regional issues within Russia and the CIS countries, such as languages, cultures and access to technology.

Europe’s Digital Education Vision
Europe’s Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes has reiterated the European Commission’s commitment to ensuring that all Europeans are fully digital by 2013. Commissioner Kroes’ speech at the opening plenary session of ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN set the tone for a conference which attracted 2154 participants from 96 countries to its programme of discussions about the latest trends in ICT and education. The next conference will take place from November 28th - 30th, 2012.
